Is it safe to go to a Movie Theatre during pregnancy?

Updated: Oct 19, 2022

Are you a movie buff and eagerly waiting to go to the theatre? Well, well, well...we understand. That's why we did some research and here's something we found about how safe it is for you to go to a movie theatre now that you are pregnant.

  1. By week 23, the baby starts to hear outside sounds just like you. But because the baby is lying safely in your belly surrounded by the muscles around your belly, placenta and amniotic fluid, the baby may not hear the sounds you do.

  2. But there's one thing that you need to consider, all the loud noise can trigger your stress hormones, making your heart race which is not good for you or the baby.

  3. According to, The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, a pregnant woman should avoid exposing herself to noise louder than 115 decibels ( that can be somewhat equivalent to the noise of a chainsaw).

Things you should not ignore!

  • People are still testing positive for Covid, so it's best to wear a mask in any public place not just in a theatre.

  • Keep your sanitizer handy and avoid touching your face, nose or mouth.

  • Carry your water bottle and avoid eating from the theatre canteen as much as possible.

  • Walk very carefully on the stairs leading to your seat and make sure to protect your belly while doing so.

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

  • Try to avoid too loud or scary movies that can lead to triggering stress.

And at last, we would suggest that you take care of the things we have mentioned above and if you feel comfortable, your doctor has not asked you to be on bed rest, there is no harm in going out for a movie. That is all from our side, you are all set to plan a movie date with your partner. Enjoy!
